摘要

The low cost/GB of desktop-class SATA drives is spurring development of a new class of nearline storage to serve low-I/O, high-capacity applications. Nearline drives are key to making cost-effective tiered storage a reality.
But desktop-class SATA drives are inappropriate for this application. Lacking nearline-class reliability and easy integration with existing enterprise infrastructures, they impose the expense and complexity of a separate SATA infrastructure.
Enter the new genre of high-capacity/low-cost enterprise drives-engineered for the rigorous workloads of nearline use, and purpose-built to integrate with high-performance enterprise infrastructures. These drives simplify management of tiered storage, with no compromise in application performance or reliability.
